What do I do if I have extra household trash?
It is recommended to recycle all newspaper, carton, plastic, and aluminum to make space in your trash bin for actual trash. If it still fills up, then you can request an additional can for $7.00 extra per month.
Why was my trashcan not picked up?
It could be that it was not out by 7 a.m. or it was not 4 feet away from any large object. Also it could have been blocked by a parked vehicle or it probably had rocks, dirt or construction debris.
I’m going to cut some branches; will the City of Laredo pick it up?
Yes, if they are cut and bundled properly (not higher than 2ft and not longer than 4ft) and placed by the curve. Please be patient. Delays may occur for picking up the branches depending on the work load.
What if my branches are larger then 2ft high, 4ft long?
It will then be picked up by appointment depending on the zip code. Please be patient. Delays may occur for picking up the branches depending on the work load and availability of equipment.
What if I have an old appliance that I want to get rid off?
It can be taken to the landfill with a current driver’s license and a utility bill. The charge will be $2.00 on Monday thru Friday and free disposal on Saturdays. If you don’t have a vehicle to transport to the landfill, you may call Solid Waste customer service at 796-1098 to schedule an appointment for pick up.
I have construction material, why was it not picked up?
Construction material is not picked up by the City of Laredo. It is the responsibility of the property owner. That material can be disposed at the landfill any day of the week. Residents may pay a fee of $2.00 if under a ton with the proper ID and utility bill.
What City department picks up dead animals on City’s right of away?
The Solid Waste Services picks up dead animals from sidewalks or streets only by calling 796-1098 or 3-1-1. Call 3-1-1, Animal Control (795-4902) or Police Department (795-2800) if you need to report dead animals after business hours.
Can I put tires in my garbage collection?
No, tires are to be disposed at the landfill by the property owner. Residents may bring up to four passenger tires any day to the landfill with a valid ID and current utility bill and will be accepted at no cost. Tractor-trailer tires are charged $6.00 each regardless if they are residential or commercial.
Why were my blue bags not picked up?
Blue bags need to be out by 7a.m. on the scheduled pick- up day. Blue bags should not contain any lawn clippings or trash.
What are the hours of operation for the Landfill?
Operating hours are from Monday through Saturday from 8a.m. to 5p.m. Utility trailers need to enter the Landfill 30 minutes prior to closing and 18-wheelers need to be inside the landfill by 2:30 p.m.
What is the fee at the landfill?
The fee is $2.00 for residents if it is under one ton. Residential rate applies if the load is under the ton and it is within the limit of two visits per month excluding Saturdays. The fee for a commercial load is $31.50 per ton on regular garbage including construction. Loads of clean branches for residents is free and $16.50 per ton for commercial accounts.
What do I do with used oil?
Used oil may be dropped off at any oil-recycling center free of charge.
What if my trash container is stolen?
You trashcan may be replaced if you call the police department at 795-2800. The police department will provide a case number, address, and police officer’s name, which you will need once you call the Solid Waste customer service line at 796-1098 of 3-1-1 to order the replacement.
What do I do if my trash container gets damaged?
Call customer service at 796-1098 or 3-1-1 to report a broken lid or broken tire on the container. It will then be scheduled for repair.
Can anyone get the mulch that the City of Laredo provides?
Yes, it is free of charge and can be obtained at the Del Mar Site close to the Fire Station, or at the Landfill.
Where can household hazardous waste be disposed?
The City of Laredo Environmental Services Department has a drop off site at the Landfill. Accepted materials include batteries, computers, and paints. For additional information, you may call 794-1650 or 3-1-1.
